CDISC Welcomes Julie Smiley as Vice President of Data Science

Austin, TX – 17 February 2025 – CDISC is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Smiley as Vice President of Data Science. With over 30 years of experience in life sciences and healthcare, Julie brings a wealth of expertise in data management, standards governance, metadata-driven automation, and digital transformation.

Throughout her career, Julie has held leadership roles overseeing large-scale technology portfolios and pioneering solutions that bridge the gap between technology and business strategy. She has been actively engaged with CDISC for 25 years as a member, volunteer, and industry collaborator, contributing to the development of the CDISC Library and driving initiatives that improve interoperability across clinical research.

By driving innovation, automation, and cross-industry collaboration, we will accelerate the adoption of data-driven strategies that enhance efficiency, compliance, and decision-making.”

Julie’s expertise includes CDISC Standards implementation, data governance, and clinical trial optimization. Most recently, she led a team at Oracle Health Sciences to develop a solution for TransCelerate’s Digital Data Flow initiative, demonstrating the potential of automation in study design and execution. She holds a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Boston University and recently completed the MIT Applied Data Science Program: Leveraging AI for Effective Decision-Making.

As Vice President of Data Science, Julie will play a key role in advancing CDISC’s 360i Initiative to expand and enable standards drive automation across the study information lifecycle from study design through results.
